The conversation is part of New York’s broader effort to expand graduation options and could provide a roadmap for state officials as they try to create testing options that stretch beyond multiple choice bubble tests.

There is broad acknowledgment that schools are playing catch-up as we head into the 21st century. Technology and resulting innovation are rapidly changing our culture, making it imperative that schools change as well.

This brief supports state leaders’ understanding of assessments by first classifying and categorizing assessments, and then providing an overview of common terms used when choosing and utilizing assessments.

IES is accepting applications for its 2018 special topics grant in Arts in Education. Grants awarded in Arts in Education support research assessing K-12 programs and policies to help improve education outcomes for students and potentially increase their success in other academic areas through the arts. The deadline to submit proposals is Aug. 17, 2017.
