Important Changes to Note
Changes to the titles of one of NAEA’s membership categories, related terminology, and parameters of a membership category were voted upon by the 2023 NAEA Delegates Assembly and ratified by the NAEA Board of Directors in April of 2023. The updates are:
- The term membership “classes” is changed to “categories” throughout the Bylaws and NAEA governing documents.
- The membership category of “Emeritus” is now referred to as “Retired.”
- The description for Institutional membership has been changed to include For one member/representative at colleges/universities/libraries/institutions directly or indirectly involved in art education. Institutional membership provides all the privileges of Active Professional membership except the right to vote or hold national office.
Please make the necessary changes to your state association materials as soon as possible.

Core Values
Working in tandem with NAEA’s 2021-25 Mission, Vision, and Strategic Pillars (MVSP), the NAEA Board and Staff has developed a set of organizational values for the association. These values reflect core attributes and behaviors that the association uplifts and holds dear, in alignment with the MVSP.
State ED&I Liaisons
In an effort to increase the impact of NAEA’s equity, diversity, and inclusion (ED&I) work more broadly, and to identify the specific needs of our membership, NAEA initiated the pilot ED&I State Liaison Program in Fall 2021. Find out the latest here.
